Intrepid Gearfly Fly Reel

The Gearfly was the up market reel from Intrepid. Very much in the style of the rim fly, the reel has a 3" spool. Where this model differs is that the spindle, which is quick release, as is the spool, operates a gearing mechanism in the back of the reel cage multiplying the rate of retreive, very useful on stillwaters or shallow rivers. The drag can be changed by using the thumbscrew on the rim. The reel is also designed for left or right hand use dependant upon which check is used in the rear. This model is the slimmer version for trout fishing. There is a hairline crack in the cage which wouldn't prevent this from being used but it is being sold priced for just a spool and central shaft assembly
