A Child Alone (Signed Foreword by Chris Yates)

This collector's edition of 'A Child Alone' was privately published by River Reads, Torrington, Devon in December 2005 to commemorate the Centenary year of Denys Watkins-Pitchford {'BB'} who was born on the 25th July, 1905 and died 8th September 1990. This new book is a strictly limited edition of 100 copies, comprising 5 deluxe copies (all sold) and 95 copies fully bound in high-grade burgundy morocco leather, gilt-edged with a silk ribbon marker, raised bands. Each copy contains a facsimile of a 5 page introduction written by leading angling author/broadcaster, Chris Yates, who has personally signed each copy. Also contained in this special edition is a facsimile of a letter 'BB' wrote to his Wiltshire correspondent James Laverick. The letter relates to the time 'BB' and his family spent at Bratton and links very nicely in with Chris's introduction . Every season promised B.B. another kind of joy, but I think this season - spring (late spring to be precise) - was his favourite . & . overhead swoop half a dozen newly arrived swallows & this is the time when B.B. would remove a pane of glass in his studio window so that his pair of annual avian visitors could begin nest building somewhere above his easel. (This very special introduction to BB's evocatively written memoirs is entirely fitting, as BB wrote the introduction to Chris's highly-acclaimed first book Casting at the Sun). Also contained in this special edition is a print of an original watercolour of a purple emperor butterfly painted by Margaret Duncan, Devon-based botanical artist and RHS medallist. Also included and of significance to the enthusiast is a facsimile of BB's letter written to James Laverick on the 2nd July 1988. Published for the first time, an extract from which reads . I do not care for this racing time which makes the distant thunder of the final fall .. The book has a hand-numbered limitation page. Presented in a matching burgundy buckram slipcase with thumb-cuts, this special edition is for the discerning collector. (Also privately published by River Reads & printed on 25th July, 2005 (the anniversary of BB's birth) the Centenary edition of the 1967 edition of the 8th Duke of Northumberland's rare book with BB's illustrations entitled: The Shadow on the Moor. The price includes sending by special delivery - £395 + postage. Just 25 copies of this special edition have been personally signed by Ralph, 12th Duke of Northumberland, and are available at £395 plus postage.
