Hello, and welcome to River Reads, the specialist fishing book site for anglers and non-anglers alike.

If signed angling books, vintage fishing tackle and the history of some of our greatest anglers such as Walker, Taylor, Stone, Buller, Yates and Rickards are your passion, look no further than River Reads and Angling Heritage (UK).

In November 2002, with just an armful angling books, River Reads was established in Great Torrington, North Devon, by Sandy & Keith Armishaw. That was the start of a success story. Rapid growth necessitated a move to larger premises, and the business continues to thrive, with over 13,000 titles currently on the internet database.

Whilst signed angling books and vintage fishing tackle are our speciality, we also cater for most tastes.  Our stock includes books on art, literature, cooking, country, BB, topography, geology, military, transport, mind & body, gardening, childrens', history, local history - you name it, we may well have it, and if its not in stock, well do our best to locate that elusive title at no charge - it's all part of the service we offer.

For the angling fraternity, there's hidden treasure in this 'tardis' of a shop. For anyone with an interest in fishing, books, vintage tackle and angling history, we've a stock of over 3,000 titles, some of which are signed first editions by leading angling authors such as Yates, Buller and Taylor. Shelves bulge with good books, which vie for space with ephemera of some of the greatest anglers of the 20th/21st Century. Take time to visit the shop at 21 South Street and you'll see signed photographs alongside the legendary cased pike of Fred J. Taylor, MBE, and angling author and historian, Fred Buller, MBE.

Also on display are the rods and reels of Frank Sawyer, Peter Stone, Richard Walker and Chris Yates; hand-made floats by Richard Walker; a fly box signed by Hugh Falkus; old film footage of Walker's record carp, Clarissa, and slightly more quirky - scales from carp caught by Chris Yates from Redmire Pool. And of course, there's the rapidly-expanding National Fishing Hat Collection! All are gratefully received, so if you want to hang on to your best fishing hat, you'd better not wear it in the shop!

All in all, this eclectic mixture of books and ephemera should ensure an enjoyable visit to River Reads. At the very least, you'll receive a warm reception and remember to sign the visitors' book before you leave - in a continuing effort to improve our service, we'd welcome your constructive comments.
